SBYC Club Days August 2nd / 3rd
Pirate Plans and Festivities
Kids Crafts- Saturday August 2 Could be a.m or p.m. depending on the interest.
I plan on using the stuff the kids make as part of the decor.
They be making pirate hand hooks, paper pirates and paper parrots.
Treasure maps might also be made if they're gung-ho Pirates ...
Saturday August 2 (2-4:30 pm) Float decorating/ Parade Attendance (Participants/Chauffeurs to get kids/ adults to the parade.)
We must be there to register at 3pm, parade starts at 3:30
Sunday, August 3rd - A.M DECORATING, SETTING UP TABLES for potluck,
prepping potatoes. (easy-peasy- we are NOT peeling anything, only chopping and
throwing them in tinfoil or bake bag), babysitting potatoes.
A.M. Setting up competition props (some balloon blowing, and water filling,
general gophering. Making iced tea for kids barrel.)
Team Competitions for Pirate Days Sunday August 3rd
Teams - everyone who wants to take part in activities will sign up, and then be assigned
to a team (get to know your stuff)
1. Teams make up a "pirate cheer"- loudest and best wins points In each event,
best cheering/ encouraging wins points for team
2. Water balloon cannon loading - we'll need to partly fill balloons, and then blow
them up for this. I need to delegate this to someone, OR it could be part of the race...
So..The teams line up arms length from each other and hand balloons down a line.
Fastest loading with most intact balloons wins. (Water fight afterwards?)
3. Walk the Plank trivia - Teams will designate one member to 'walk the plank"
I haven't decided how to do this. Ideally, I'd love to have different teams on boats
around the docks, and the plank members on the docks (the planks), but if this proves
impossible, I'll set up planks on-shore, with buckets of water to dump at the end-maybe
we could douse the whole team? Teams produce answers (write on a small white board
in consensus), wrong answers = 1 step forward till end of plank...
4. Pirate Dress up race, or some such nonsense - Each member runs, wearing an article
of clothing, next person has his article, and must also put on the previous person's article,
till one member of the team has all the props on... This may change to something else. ..
Ideas for team prizes (must be cheap) would also be welcome, and if anyone would like to
DONATE prizes, that would be welcome.
5. A Treaure Hunt Extravaganza... Not just for kids... make sure you bring your GPS...
5:00 PM - potluck PIRATE Supper (kids and adults-$8/person 12 years and older)
6:00 / 6:30ish home made wine Taste Off. The judging will take place sometime after supper. Adventurer, Author, Nick Lees from the Edmonton Journal is appearing as the "Pirate Lord" to do the judging. Bring some bottles of your finest grape to pit againest other "Pirates".
Award for best PIRATE team after supper...

SBYC Wednesday Night Races
July Wednesday night races will be pursuit races. That means start times will be
according to a boat's rating (slowest boats starting earliest - closer to 7pm - and faster
boats starting later). We are trying to have start times posted at EYC and SBYC, and
hopefully out on lakelist by Tuesday night. The intent of the pursuit race is to have a race
that ends in one hour - that would be at 8pm. So all people should need is their start time
and the race course. The theory is that where you end up in the fleet at +/-8pm is your
finish position. The race committee from EYC/SBYC may joggle initial ratings to correct
biases that may appear - the intent of this series being maximum participation/fun under
an umbrella of fairness. We would like to see boats that don't often race come out, and
experienced skippers volunteer to assist hesitant/less experienced crews.
